ABOUT · THE CRUDE COMPANY

The business of keeping business moving.

There are companies that build roads, raise buildings, manufacture goods, move containers and keep the lights on. And then there are companies that help keep those companies running. We're building one of those.

We're an independent Nigerian energy trading and distribution business, focused on getting diesel, lubricants and other essential petroleum products into the hands of the businesses that need them.

It's not the most glamorous business in the world. But there's something rather extraordinary about the ordinary things that keep an economy working.

And we think they're worth doing exceptionally well.

THE MARKET

A little crude. A lot of purpose.

Nigeria is a country that makes things, builds things and moves things. Behind much of that activity is an enormous, often invisible network of suppliers, traders, distributors, transporters and businesses working to keep industry supplied.

It's a complicated network. Sometimes unnecessarily so.

Products change hands. Prices move. Deliveries are negotiated. Quality varies. And somewhere in the middle of it all is a business that simply needs 10,000 litres of diesel or the right grade of hydraulic oil to get on with its day.

We believe there's room to make that process work better. Not by reinventing petroleum. Or pretending the supply chain can be reduced to an app. But by bringing a little more organisation, commercial intelligence and accountability to the business of buying and selling the things that industry depends on.

That's where The Crude Company comes in.

OUR WORK

What we do.

We trade and coordinate the supply of diesel, automotive and industrial lubricants, and related petroleum products.

Our customers are the businesses that power Nigeria's productive economy: manufacturers, construction companies, transport operators, industrial facilities and commercial organisations.

We work to understand what they need, identify suitable sources of supply, negotiate commercially sensible terms and coordinate fulfilment.

Sometimes the requirement is straightforward. Sometimes it involves multiple suppliers, technical specifications, delivery arrangements and a fair bit of problem-solving.

We like the problem-solving part.

THE APPROACH

We don't need to own everything.

The energy industry is full of expensive things. Tank farms. Depots. Trucks. Terminals. Pipelines.

They're important. But owning them all isn't the only way to build a useful energy business.

Our approach is to work with established participants across the supply chain, connecting their capabilities with the needs of industrial customers.

That allows us to concentrate on where we believe we can create value: finding opportunities, developing relationships, managing procurement and making transactions work.

We intend to build a business measured less by the infrastructure it owns and more by the quality of the business it conducts.

PRINCIPLES

Good business is repeat business.

We believe the most valuable transaction isn't necessarily the biggest one. It's the one that earns the next order.

  • 01Clear specifications
  • 02Realistic availability
  • 03Disciplined payment terms
  • 04Accountable commitments

That requires more than an attractive quotation. It means being clear about specifications, realistic about availability, disciplined about payment terms and accountable for the commitments we make. We're building those principles into the way we operate from the beginning.

Because in this industry, a good reputation is difficult to build, surprisingly easy to lose and considerably more valuable than a clever sales pitch.

DIRECTION

Where we're going.

We're starting with diesel and lubricants. Not because that's where our imagination ends, but because it's a practical place to begin.

Our longer-term ambition is to build a diversified energy and industrial commodities business, expanding our products, supplier relationships, distribution capabilities and the markets we serve.

We see technology playing an important role in that future. Better procurement systems. Better visibility. Better information. Less friction between businesses that need products and those that can supply them.

But we're equally interested in the decidedly unglamorous fundamentals: reliable counterparties, sound economics, sensible risk management and customers who keep coming back.

We're in this for the long haul.

LET'S TALK

Let's get to work.

If your business needs diesel, lubricants or a dependable partner for industrial energy procurement, we'd like to hear from you. If you're a supplier, distributor or logistics operator interested in working together, we'd like to hear from you too.

We're a little crude.
Our standards aren't.
